than 17 years experience teaching in schools in UK and overseas. Ruth moved to
South Korea in July 1998, and currently works as an English language teacher in
the Sogang University institute for foreign language education in Seoul.

In
Malaysia, Ruth worked as an elementary teacher in a newly built international
school in Kuala Lumpur. She played an active part in curriculum development in
an environment committed to meeting the needs of the whole child. She was science
coordinator and later became values coordinator. For the last two years she held
the post of team leader for the upper elementary classes.
As an educator in Singapore, Ruth taught 5th grade at the American
School. She was mathematics coordinator for the elementary school 1993-94. At
Inlingua School of Languages, Ruth taught English to expatriate adults and children
and English as a Second Language to Singaporean school students. In
England Ruth worked with children with very different life experiences, first
in a rural middle school and later in a progressive inner city school.
Seminar
and Workshop Experience
Ruth led workshops
on teaching values at the South East Asia Teacher and Counsellors Conference
(SEATCCO) in 1995 and 1997. In August
1996, Ruth was one of 20 global educators who met with UNICEF in New York to discuss
and develop strategies to better support values-based education for all. The outcome was
Living Values: An
Educational Initiative which later developed into Living Values Education now in use in more than 60 countries.
In August 1997 and 2000, Ruth was a co-facilitator for the Living
Values Train the Trainers international residential training programme
in Oxford, UK.
In August
1998, Ruth worked with UNICEF, Korea on a global education training programme
for government school teachers in Seoul.
In October
1999, Ruth led a Living Values workshop at the international
conference for NGOs held in Seoul.
Commencing September 2000, Ruth has been facilitating implementation
of Living Values Education at Seoul International School, Songnam, South Korea. The school adopted
LVE to
support existing program outcomes in Health and Social Studies in the elementary
school, and introduction of Living Values at high school level through a new 9th
grade class.
October 3-6, 2000, Ruth led Living Values Education training for 30 educators at Ministry of Education and Training, Hanoi, Vietnam.
On October 27, 2000 Ruth led a workshop introducing
Living Values Education to American School teachers at the annual KORCOS-DODDS
2000 Conference in Seoul.
Ruth
currently co-ordinates activities for Brahma Kumaris in South Korea. For the past
six years, through her association with Brahma Kumaris, Ruth has also been involved
in planning and facilitating programmes designed to empower individuals through
positive thinking, self-awareness and the practice of Raja Yoga meditation.
Ruth was a co-facilitator for international youth retreats held at Brahma
Kumaris headquarters in Rajasthan in December 1997, 1998 and 2000. |
