Giving Children Hope and a Future

Since the initiation of living values clubs in various schools within Elbarta Child and Family Programme (CCF Affiliated Project), a great deal of changes have seen in a number of children. We did a case study of one of our model schools in Samburu district where Living values program is being integrated within the school activities. Below are some of the children?s testimonies:

Nasra Napetok

I am 14 years old; I am in Nalingangor primary school class seven. Before initiation of values club in our school I used to be in troubles with my fellow pupils, they used to beat me up hated me because I was stealing their books and pens. This habit made me sad most of the time. I was not happy in my class and even when we went out to play.

As time went by my fellow friends left me and I found my self-having many enemies instead. Most people never wanted to associate with me. I would some times over hear them saying things like this to me ? who wants to stay with a thief and someone mouthy?. I was so much affected that my studies deteriorated a big deal.

However, had it not been for the values club, I can?t even imagine what my life would have been, since we were taught many things like Love, Respect, Honesty and many others, my life took another course I stopped stealing their books and pens. The pupils who used to hate me changed I now feel whole, happy respected, loved trusted and many other things I used to miss.

My studies also improved. When I was a troublemaker, I used to lie in position 40 out of 42. After becoming a good pupil, I became 6 out of 42 pupils, am hoping to do better to even becoming the first in my class. Am so much ready for more values education.

Big thanks to CCF for what you trained on Values has changed and shown me the way.

Ewoi Eric Lopokorr

I am Erick Ewoi Lopokorr, 16 years old; I live in Baragoi; Samburu District in Rift Valley Province. I am in standard seven in Nalingangor primary school. Previously before the initiation of values clubs in our school by CCF El-barta I was a terrible boy. After teaching of good virtues I flash backed and clearly saw that I was an evil boy. I remember I would gang up boys and went out to steal from people? abusing them and even throwing stones to them. I am really sorry for one day at night my gang and I threw stones to an old man. We further threw polythene papers stuffed with ash to him and others. To us this was a bomb.

We continued doing this after which we would meet and laugh at how we made someone cry by our ?last night?s military operations?.

This was fun to us, we did not care how people felt. We even heard others curse us bitterly.

During the day we would combat villages and gather small children the parents were away and we would use them for practices: kicking them and doing all sorts of evils to these small babies.

I still would never forget what I felt when The CCF Staff talk to us on Living Values. He talked to us about responsibility love, humility and many others good practices. It was as if he was focusing on my characters, I even thought he was mockingly torturing me, however later I found that he was out changing me and other children with similar behaviors like mine. I found that I was taking a way to destruction.

After several visit to our school, I was so much touched by what he said. I felt like confessing my behaviors to my colleagues and teachers so that I may change. I later saw that this would have devastated me the most. I decided to confess it to the Living Values teacher. I demolished my purported military gang and decided to behave. I am now at peace. I even read more for the most moment I used to spend molesting people. I now use my time for my schoolwork. I believe I will do well now. I vowed to be good boy and a teacher of others for a better society. I thank you CCF with your life changing values. May you do it more?

Simon Losike

By the names I am Simon Losike, schooling in Nalingangor primary school and am in standard seven.

Before CCF started training on living values I was a very bad boy. I was good at writing bad language in the toilets abusing others even my teachers. After writing such nonsense I used to be contented with myself because nobody knew what I was doing.

When I received training on living values through CCF about Love, Peace and Responsibility, I really changed a great deal and I now understand that responsibility starts with self before it spills over to others.

I repented in front of other pupils that I will never repeat again and I promised that I would be in frontline in teaching other people with such characters.

I very much improved in learning since I came up from nearly last up to number twelve and I do hope I will improve much next time. Lastly I would like to inform CCF to continue with the same spirit since I now have to be a responsible person without being told by others. Thanks to CCF.

Priscillah Nkimat

By the names I am Priscillah Nkimat. I was born in 1987 and I am in standard seven in Nalingngor primary school. I was a liar. A terrible liar and I cheated other pupils, teachers and also my parents. I was so dishonest that no one trusted in me in any way.

I remember one day when I was sent home for fees, my mum never trusted in what I was speaking about and was furious telling me to go back to school and when I stood firm on my statement she picked a cane and whipped me and again forced me to go back to school. When I reached school I narrated to the teacher what had happened, but incredibly enough he trusted what I was talking about and he sent me home again. It forced me to take one of the pupils to my mum who believed later that I was really sent home.

I continued being dishonest and other bad habits until CCF introduced values clubs. That?s the time my mind opened up after learning values like Love, Peace, Honesty and others.

Nowadays, my life is taking on a different direction, which is right. I confessed before pupils that I have changed and I have started seeing the fruits of being honest.

Thanks to CCF since now I am a teacher of other pupils.

Florence Lokarach

I am in Nalingangor primary school in class four.

I used to fight so much, I never considered whom I was handling, even my own mother. The moments she gives me a piece of advice, I would shout at her that she had nothing to tell me. She would threaten to fight me and I would invite her for a fight.

She would stare at me with amazement; perhaps she was wondering what kind of a child I was. I continued with this kind of live until after some days when Mark from CCF came and trained us on living values.

He spoke of love, tolerance and many others. I was haunted with these values until I decided to change. I am now a good girl, am changed and am proud of myself now. Even my parents are happy and proud of me.

Thank you our teacher Mark, continue teaching us more on values.

Silverster Albert

I am Sylvester Albert, in Nalingangor primary school, I am 14 years old. I used to mock and angered my friends in school. I would pretend to be strong and smart, yet I would be kicked and beaten up properly by most children in school. I was just inviting troubles to myself. When I reported whoever bet me up, I would again be beaten and punished by the teacher, as they too knew I was not a good boy.

I was so much humiliated by what I used to do. I was further nick named a hyena who pretends to be brave yet a coward. When CCF started value club in our school and continued training us on good virtues, like love, respect and many others. I decided to change and love others. I remember when Mark said a heart with love could contain the whole earth, I decided to love every one in our school in whatever state they are. I even started rebuking those who continued having similar characters like mine.

I now amicably relate with my teachers and my fellow pupils, even my parents at home love me more. They even leave my young sisters behind so that I care for them when they are away. I now have peace in my heart and mind. Thank you Mark and CCF for changing me and making me the real me.

Conclusion

Children whose lives have been changed by the Living Values are very instrumental in passing messages to other children through Child-to-child programs.
